17-year-old Miss. student killed in car accident

(WMC-TV) – A North Mississippi community is mourning the loss of a teenager after he was killed in a car accident Monday night. The crash happened on St. Paul Road in Marshall County.

Kevin McClung, 17, lived right down the road from where he crashed.

Now, his family is picking up the pieces as they try to figure what caused the wreck that took his life.

"I couldn't do nothing but cry," said Kevin McClung's brother, Jerrico Boyce.

Boyce was waiting for his brother to get back from the store.

"I seen a whole lot of ambulance and police go down the road and I had called his phone and he ain't answer and then my mom texted him and he ain't text back and she got in the truck and went down the road to go see what was going on," explained Boyce.

McClung's family gathered under the tree where his car came to a halt.

Loved ones say the teen's vehicle flipped several times as the result of a collision up the hill on St. Paul Road. McClung's three passengers survived, but he did not.

"Nothing is going to get the family through but fellowship from one another and the Lord," said family member Nicky Golden.

The news of the deadly car crash was slow to reach McClung's classmates at Byhalia High School.

Superintendent Jerry Moore said counselors were on hand to help students through an all too familiar tragedy.

"I'm just very saddened. We just went through this last semester, we lost a student here last semester and it feels like that was just yesterday and now we're going through that again," said Moore.

McClung's family is clinging to memories as they wait to learn what happened from accident investigators.

The superintendent told Action News 5 that two of the other students were released from The MED on Tuesday. The third passenger remains in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
