(WMC-TV) – A mother is under arrest after a police officer says he caught her smoking marijuana in her car while her 2-year-old was asleep in the back seat.
A Memphis police officer noticed a suspicious vehicle near a community center in the Westwood community.
The officer said when the driver, Michelle Ball, 25, rolled down her window he could smell marijuana and saw smoke billowing from the car. He noticed a small child asleep in the back seat.
Both Ball and a juvenile, who was in the passenger seat, were arrested.
In an affidavit of complaint, the officer said he had trouble waking up the 2-year-old, so he called an ambulance.
While searching the vehicle, police found a marijuana cigarette and marijuana residue under the driver's seat. Investigators also found that the child's safety seat was not secured in the car.
During the course of the investigation, according to the affidavit, the juvenile arrested said, "I don't know what the problem is. We only hit the blunt once each and then y'all came rolling up."
The 2-year-old was turned over to Ball's mother.
Ball is charged with DUI and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The juvenile was taken to the juvenile detention center.
