(WMC-TV) - For the first time, 35 Schools in Mississippi are eligible to be converted to charter schools.
Parents in eight counties in the Mid-South have a chance to pull the trigger on consistently failing schools - and take over them.
First, a majority of parents must sign a petition seeking conversion. Parents would have to develop a full plan on how they would run the school.
At this point, state leaders and charter advocates say they know of no petitions currently circulating.
