(WMC-TV) – A second victim in the early morning shooting on Mount Moriah Road has died as a result of his injuries. Two people are now dead, and a third victim remains in critical condition at The MED.
Police say four men in their 20s were leaving the Level II nightclub around 2:40 a.m. The men pulled up to a red light on the 5000 block of American Way. Police say another car pulled up alongside them and fired multiple shots into the driver's side of the car. The 20-year-old man driving the car was shot, along with two of his passengers.
A passenger in the back seat of the car, who was not injured, was able to remove the driver from the driver's seat and take his friends to a gas station on the corner of Park Avenue and Mount Moriah Road where he called for help.
"I guess it was his cousin telling the guy to 'Stay with me. Don't die on me. Hang in there. Help is on the way,'" said Teresa Jennings, who called 911.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead on the scene. A 20-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital where he later died. The third victim, a 19-year-old man, is still in critical condition at The MED.
The men were driving a silver 2001 Chevy Malibu, which is now riddled with bullet holes.
"There were bullet holes in the windshields and in the driver's window through the side of the car and windows of the car," said Jennings. "It looked like someone had went all around it shooting."
Police interviewed several witnesses but do not have a description of the suspect yet.
