Studies show a lower obesity rate in Tenn.

(WMC-TV) – We have good news for Tennesseans. New studies reveal state residents are getting healthier.

And while people here in Shelby County are slimming down. Both this county and the state of Tenn. are still places where being overweight remains a problem.

But here is the good news, at the "Let's Change" conference in East Memphis Wednesday, area health experts hailed a report by the Tennessee Obesity Task Force.

The report claims that the percentages of adults considered overweight or obese dropped locally and state-wide last year.

Public health care officials are encouraged by all the weight loss.

"We focus so much on individuals, we need to impact our system changes," said Renee Frazier, CEO of Health Memphis Common Table.

There might be some signs of improvement, but there is still room for improvement. Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee are still among the worst in the nation when it comes to obesity.
