(WMC-TV) - Two former Memphis Animal Shelter workers charged with animal cruelty faced a judge Monday.

Former Memphis Animal Services Director Earnest Alexander and Former Supervisor Tina Quattlebaum appeared in the same courtroom for report dates just minutes apart.

The charges stem from the deaths of three dogs at the shelter and a raid that also led to indictments against shelter veterinarian Angela Middleton.

On Saturday, a jury found Middleton not guilty of the charges against her.

Now, attorneys for Alexander and Quattlebaum said they want charges against their clients dismissed too.

"We've always been hopeful that this case could be resolved in a manner that does not result in a conviction for anyone it's a difference in criminal law and administrative wrongs," said Quattlebaum's attorney, William Massey.

If convicted, Quattlebaum and Alexander could face six years in jail on each count and would have to pay $3,000 in fines.

Both Alexander and Quattlebaum are scheduled to report back to court on December 11.

"I'm certain at this point there must be negotiations going on in order to resolve the remaining cases," said Massey.

The defense attorney says, meanwhile, they hope to meet with prosecutors to see if the charges can be dismissed.
