Munford band members hoping to win regional championship this weekend

(WMC-TV) - Their FFA is nationally ranked, their football team is in the playoffs, and now members of the Munford High School band are ready to "play off" with another win at yet another championship contest.

"It's my senior year and I want to go out with a bang, and I want to win state," said senior band member Coreina Spears.

Just this past weekend, the nationally recognized band won the band masters competition.

This weekend, they will travel to Chattanooga to the US Scholastic Band Association contest, where they hope to bring home another regional award.

"You really don't get it until you get on that podium and 190 eyes are looking at you," added senior member Terry Russell.

Russell is the field commander for the band.

He and others said the long hours of practice are worth every minute.

Band members practice about an hour and a half each day, during the day.

They also practice about two hours after school.

More than half of the band members are freshmen and haven't been on a marching field before.

Senior members say they know their extra work has already paid off.

"I've learned to be a leader.  I've learned to work well with others, a bunch of things I'm going to be able to use in the future," said Spears.
