Memphis Trick Or Treater Robbed Of Candy At Gunpoint

MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) –A Memphis trick-or-treater lived a real-life horror story, robbed at gunpoint Halloween night by a carload of masked crooks.

"I was walking back from a place my mother told me not to go with my brother," said 12 year-old Daniel Palmer.

He regretted not heeding his mother's warning Halloween night after the Soulsville Charter School student says he was robbed at gunpoint around 11:30 near his home in the Parkway Village neighborhood of Memphis.

"They told me empty my pockets or I get shot," recalled Palmer in an exclusive interview with Action News 5.  "So, when they pointed a gun to my head I emptied all my pockets and they took my phone."

They also took a bunch of the Halloween candy Palmer had collected.

"They took some of it," said Palmer.  "Half of the bag."

Palmer said one of the robbers was wearing a mask similar to his.  Another had a mask that looked like a devil.  He said there were five robbers in all.  Most of them stayed in the car during the crime.

"When he called and told me he was robbed, my whole inside dropped," said Palmer's mother, Katherine Taylor.

She was not at home at the time and said she knew something bad might happen if he stayed out too late.

"But like I told them, I could have been with y'all and they still would have tried to rob me too, you know?" said Taylor.

Palmer said he and his older brother split up when they saw a car creeping up behind them.  He cried on the walk back home.

"Trying to get God to help me out through that situation," said Palmer.
