Memphis Area Sanitation workers fight for their jobs

(WMC-TV) - A group of Memphis Area Sanitation workers fought for their jobs this weekend.

In a developing story, workers who work for Republic Services Allied Waste testified in front of a workers' rights board.

The Workers Interfaith Network assembled the board.

They fear the sanitation company may take away pensions and replace employees.

"The employees helped get them where they are they made them as rich as they are. Now that they've gotten there they just want to sit back and say ok I got mine and I don't care if you ever get yours which is crazy they need to do what's right," said Shelby County Commissioner Sydney Chism.

Last week nearly a thousand workers in 19 cities (including Memphis) held picketing actions to protest Republic, Allied's behavior.
