MILAN, TN - (WMC-TV) – A former Mid-South police officer has been indicted on multiple sex charges.
Adam Martin is a veteran Milan police officer. He has been on the force 17 years with a break in the middle when he left for another job. Now he is facing some very serious charges involving a 19-year-old relative.
The arrest of veteran Milan Police officer Adam Martin was the talk of bingo night at Huddle House in Milan.
"Absolutely not true. Just a made up deal," said friend Ed Davis.
A Gibson County grand jury indicted Martin on 24 counts of sexual misconduct - 18 counts of rape one, one count of incest, one count of aggravated sexual battery and one count of sexual battery by an authority figure - all involving a 19-year-old relative.
"Rumors are rumors until you know the facts," said Milan resident Donna McNabb. "This is my hometown. I don't disrespect him by no means. I don't know the facts. I don't know the situation."
Martin was hired as a Milan police officer in 1992. He worked for 7 years then left to work at a parts store then was rehired in 2002.
He was originally arrested in July on one count of sexual battery by an authority figure. The DA asked the TBI to start investigating. And that is where the new charges came from after the case was presented to the Gibson County grand jury.
Milan police say Adam Martin is suspended without pay.
Adam Martin still has his supporters.
Adam Martin is in the Gibson County jail on a 150 thousand dollar bond. He is scheduled to appear in court at the end of next week.
