MCS to possibly be taken over by the ASD

(WMC-TV) - As of right now, 14 schools are on the list to be taken over by the new Achievement School District (ASD) next year. And 10 of those schools are in the bottom 5 percent in the state.

On its website, the new group says its mission is to move those bottom 5 percent schools into the top 25 percent within five years.

Essentially, they want to redefine what it means to be a "district," recruiting and retaining top talent, and preparing all students for college and a career.

To accomplish this, the ASD plans to engage the community. They are hosting a meeting tonight for teachers and parents of students who attend Georgian Hills Middle School.

The meeting will be held at the Pursuit of God Church in Frayser at 5:30 p.m.

We will have to wait a little while longer to find out the 10 schools that ASD will take over. A decision will be made by December 17.

Action News 5 will keep you posted on the developments.
