(WMC-TV) - A raging inferno is how some would describe an early morning fire that happened in Oakhaven. And now, the fire is the focus of an arson investigation.
The flames erupted just after 1:30 a.m., and they were severe when firefighters arrived.
And when they got to the scene, it took them about 45 minutes to put out the flames.
Fire officials say the unit that burned was vacant, and so was the one next to it. However, there are occupied units in the complex, so other residents were put at risk as they slept.
And this isn't the first time a fire has been set at this complex. In fact, there have been several suspicious fires at this apartment over the past few years. Many of them have happened within the last year.
And while the units targeted by arsonists are normally vacant, residents in occupied apartments worry for their safety. One witness on the scene said he is afraid to sleep because the fires are normally set overnight, while residents are asleep.
Other residents are frustrated as well, and said they want the responsible party to be caught soon.
The fire has been labeled as suspicious. Action News 5's Amy Speropoulos is on the scene now. Tune in to the morning show for interviews with neighbors who were on the scene of the fire.
