(WMC-TV) – A 16-year old is dead and two others are in jail after police say they tried to break into a home Friday afternoon.
The burglary suspect was shot by the homeowner and died at The MED.
Copper Valley Road was on lock down for hours Friday morning after the shooting.
Crime scene investigators combed a patch of grass near the subdivision where, moments earlier, employees at the industrial park across the street saw a man down.
"He was lying on the ground and they were giving him CPR," said witness Stacy Day.
Police say the homeowner shot one of the three intruders. Another man was arrested at the scene, and while investigators searched for a third suspect, no one was able to get in or out of their homes.
Neighbors say the break ins have become routine in their formerly quiet neighborhood.
Tammy Thomas believes one of the suspects is the same person who broke into her home just a few weeks ago.
"He broke into my house and stole a 62 inch TV, a 50 inch TV, and he lives in the next neighborhood so he waits on us to go to work then he jumps the gate and comes in and takes our merchandise out of our homes," said Thomas.
Thomas and other residents hope an armed neighbor defending his property has finally put a stop to a series of crimes that may involve some of the same suspects.
"Because they don't have no business coming into no one's home. Whatever we've got in our houses is our stuff," said Wanda Vester, who lives in the neighborhood.
Memphis police say the third suspect lived in the neighborhood and has also been arrested.
