PBR Owner Metropoulos considers bid for Hostess Brands

(WMC-TV) - Twinkies may survive after all, another company has already expressed in buying Hostess Brands.

According to Bloomberg News - C. Dean Metropoulos & Co., the private-equity firm that owns Pabst Brewing Co., is considering an offer to buy the 82 -year-old company which plans to liquidate its business.

Metropoulos specializes in purchasing struggling brands, such as Chef Boyardee and Bumble Bee Tuna, and turning them around.

The firm paid close attention to the maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread during its bankruptcy proceedings, according to Bloomberg.

Metropoulos told Bloomberg that the company was "fully prepared to participate in any process involving selling the brands."

Hostess said Friday it will fire more than 18,000 workers and liquidate after a nationwide strike by bakery workers crippled operations.

Hostess, which is based in Irving, Texas, said its stores will stay open for several days to sell remaining products.
