(WMC-TV) – In just a few hours, students at Carver High School will rally against the proposed school closures. The Shelby County school board has been battling this controversial issue for weeks.
A meeting today may shed some light on what is at stake for the merger next fall.
Board Members could get their first detailed look at the controversial proposal to close an undetermined number of schools.
The TPC recommends closing six schools in Northwest Memphis and 15 schools in Southwest Memphis. It could save the district $20 million. Some schools could go to the Achievement School District (ASD) and not close.
The rally today at Carver High will start at 9 a.m. today in the school auditorium. Meanwhile the meeting for the school board is set to start at 7 tonight. It will be at the MCS teaching and learning academy.
Keep in mind, the administration will get your input before finalizing a closure list.
