(WMC-TV) - Several houses on Old Raleigh Millington Road were destroyed by fire overnight. Many people in the neighborhood say they are fed up.
"Frightened. Fed up, just tired. Thankful. Blessed God gave me one more Thanksgiving," said Erica Lee, who watched as fire ripped through two homes in her community.
"We was in the house. We heard the fire department come. We jumped up, looked outside and it was on fire," she said.
Fire officials are not saying what caused the nearby houses to burn.
Lee says the houses were vacant. She also said they have recently been the targets of copper thieves.
"I think they stealing what they want out of the houses and they're setting them on fire," said Lee.
Neighbors along the street say what is left of the houses should be torn down and not rebuilt.
Erica Lee says she'd like to see more police patrolling the area.
"They broke in her house so much 'til she moved. I've been burglarized three times. The lady who lived right here before, they broke into her house four times," said Lee.
People in the north Memphis neighborhood say the burned out houses are enough to send them packing.
