NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -
Armed robbers hit two separate businesses in Nacogdoches late Sunday night and took undisclosed amounts of cash from both locations. The Nacogdoches Police Department obtained surveillance videos and is seeking help from the public in identifying the robbers.
"It is possible that these two robberies are related," Sgt. Greg Sowell, the public information officer for the Nacogdoches Police Department said.
The first one occurred at a Shell convenience store located at the intersection of East Main and University Drive at 10:52 p.m. The clerk told police officers that two black men entered the store, and during a purchase, one man produced a hand gun. The armed robbers then demanded the clerk give them the money from the cash register and fled the scene with the cash.
"I got a call at 11:06 from the store," store manager Muhammad Riaz said. "Usually I don't get a call that late usually around closing time and the call was we've been robbed."
Riaz was shocked to hear that two black men entered his store and robbed it.
"He told her 'it's a loaded gun ma'am' and that's when she handed over the tray and he just grabbed whatever he could," Riaz said.
The suspects fled the scene with no more than$100, but it was enough to scare Riaz and his employees.
"Never," Riaz said. "Never like this. I've been here 13 years and we've had our run-in of a break-in here and there, but nothing like this."
Another robbery occurred at 11:40 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express located in the 3800 block of South Street. Two black males entered the lobby and displayed a hand gun to the clerk. The two men then took cash from the drawer and left the hotel.
According to a press release, the suspects in the Holiday Inn were also spotted at another Nacogdoches store. Even though no robbery occurred at that location, they were caught on camera.
Anyone with any information about the suspects in the two robberies should call the Nacogdoches PD's Crime Stoppers hot line at (936) 560-INFO (4636). All calls are confidential, and if the information results in an arrest or a grand jury indictment, you could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
An unrelated third armed robbery occurred at the La Quinta Inn on South First Street at 5:09 a.m. Monday. The employee told officers from the Lufkin Police Department that the suspects entered the business, displayed a hand gun, and demanded money from the cash register.
After the employee complied with their demands, the two men fled from the business with an undisclosed amount of cash. The employees at the business described one of the suspects as a black man wearing a light-colored jacket, blue jeans, and a baseball-style hat.
Detective J.B. Smith, the public information officer for the Lufkin Police Department, said that the LPD was unable to obtain any surveillance video or photos from the South First Street robbery.
"I cannot determine if the Lufkin and Nacogdoches incidents are connected; any attempt to do so would be speculation."
