(WMC-TV) – The Lakeview Apartments on Winchester Road were deliberately set on fire Friday morning. This is the 10th arson fire crews have had to respond to at that apartment complex this year.
Now, residents want answers.
One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he woke up at 1:45 a.m.
"I thought my glasses were foggy or something, because it was smoky," he said. "Then I looked at my vent and I saw thick dark smoke coming out of my vent."
When he opened his door, flames were shooting toward his apartment. He grabbed his jacket, briefcase and ran out.
"If I'd been there just a little later I would have had to climb out the balcony," the resident said.
Battalion Chief Keith Staples reports no injuries to residents or firefighters, but many worry it is a matter of time before there is a tragedy.
"We got the fire knocked down in about 35 minutes," said Chief Staples.
Terry Clark is another resident who is hoping her apartment unit is not the next to be targeted by arsonists. She wonders what the buildings' new owners will do.
"He wants to clean the property up and get it in shape but at this rate there's not going to be anything left to get in shape," said Clark.
