(WMC-TV) – The man who was taken to the hospital after trying to help a neighbor whose house was on fire has died.
The fire started at a home on the 4800 block of Walden Glen Street just after 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Heavy smoke was coming from the home by the time fire crews arrived on the scene.
The neighbor, who was trying to break down the front door in an effort to locate the homeowner, collapsed on the sidewalk.
Firefighters ran to help him and realized the 69-year-old not breathing. According to rescuers, the neighbor had gone into "full arrest" and was taken to the hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
The 57-year-old homeowner that the man was trying to help was taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation and hypertension. She was not seriously injured.
Fire investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.
The identity of the Good Samaritan who died has not yet been released.
