Double shooting outside shopping center, one in critical condition

(WMC-TV) - A double shooting broke out in the middle of the day Saturday busy shopping center with dozens of witnesses, and luckily for the police, cameras were also rolling - capturing everything on video.

"Bloody people that's all - people bloody," said witness Shawn Carter.

Witnesses to Saturday's double shooting said it was a typical afternoon in a Millbranch shopping center until bullets started flying.

"I seen her trying to get out of the car so I went over there to try to help her," said Carter.

Carter said he ran to this red Dodge Neon to help after he saw a man with a female passenger drive out of the shopping center and directly into a pole.

"She got shot in her leg, the other got shot in the neck," he said.

Both victims had been shot by an unknown suspect standing only a feet away in the parking lot.

Witnesses said the victims were last seen arguing with the suspect moments before shots were fired.

With a growing crowd of on-lookers, investigators taped off the majority of the shopping center and marked evidence.

The man said to be with the suspect before the shooting was detained and questioned by police.

Investigators also questioned several business owners and learned that the shooting had been captured on surveillance video.

"You know I knew her, I'm going to try to help whoever I know," he said.

Carter said he's seen the female victim in the area before but did not know why she was a target.

Both victims were transported to the MED where the woman suffered non-life threatening injuries but the man was said to be critically wounded.

"I think she will survive, I don't think he will. I hope he do, I pray he do you know," said Carter.

Investigators said the shooter fled the scene on foot, said to be wearing all black.
