Millington police officer arrested for DUI

(WMC-TV) – A Millington police officer is charged with DUI after police say they caught him driving with an open bottle of Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade in his car.

Millington reserve police officer Charles Culbreath was pulled over driving 60 miles per hour in a 45 MPH zone. In addition to a reckless driving charge, he was booked into the Shelby County Jail on a DUI charge, too.

The Memphis police officers who pulled Culbreath over say he reeked of too much cologne. They also say he smelled like alcohol.

When the officers made him get out of the car, they said he was staggering, had slurred speech, and bloodshot eyes.

When they looked inside his car, the officers said they found an open bottle of Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade in the center console.

Officers say Culbreath admitted to drinking six beers.

He works for the City of Millington as a fulltime employee in the public works division. He remains on the job because it is not a position of public safety.

However, while this case is under investigation, city officials say he is not allowed to perform the 16 hours on shift that is required of all reserve police officers.

No one answered Culbreath's door, but the gold Chevy Malibu he was driving when he was arrested is back in his driveway.

The Millington police chief and mayor both say they are still awaiting an official report on this case and otherwise declined comment.
