(WMC-TV) - It was a sad occasion as the Memphis Child Advocacy Center stood witness to the loss of one of their youngest.
The organization raised the Children's Memorial Flag for 4-month-old Kalissa Pegues, who died as a result of blunt force trauma.
Kalissa's father, Sebastian Pegues, has been charged on four counts of murder in the perpetration of aggravated child abuse and neglect.
The baby's mother, Teresa Pegues, has also been charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect.
"It's a really important day to pause and reflect on the loss of life of a 4-month-old who could have been anything she dreamed of if she had the support and love of those around her. She's gone and we can't get her back," said Virginia Stall, Memphis Child Advocacy Center.
Kalissa is the 49th child to be memorialized since 2005 and the fifth child to be remembered in this year.
"There are a lot of kids who are not safe in their homes and that's why we as neighbors need to take an interest and take responsibility for the kids around us, speak out and make the report of suspected abuse if you think something is not right," said Stall.
