(WMC-TV) – The Memphis Police Department is looking to make some changes and find crime solutions. And they are asking for your input to make it happen.
The changes mostly involve redistricting the police precincts in your neighborhoods.
We talked one on one with Police Director Toney Armstrong and he believes it is the best thing for his department right now.
Director Armstrong says redrawing the boundaries of his nine precincts should cut down on the disproportionate number of calls.
A number of detectives will also move from 201 Poplar downtown into each Precinct in February. Armstrong says it is a work in progress.
"We're not going into this with feet in concrete. We understand gonna have to be flexible and gonna be changes. May be changes to personnel or whatever but we feel we have to do something," said Armstrong.
You can voice your opinion on this plan. All nine precincts will host town hall meetings Thursday night at 6 p.m.
Armstrong says right now there are no plans to open any new precincts and how often they redistrict depends on the growth of the city.
