MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The man arrested in the house when MPD Officer Martoiya Lang was shot faced a judge Monday.
Investigators say Willie Braddock was inside the home on Mendenhall Cove when another man, Treveno Campbell, reportedly shot and killed Lang.
Officers say they charged Braddock with drug possession after they found him in a back bedroom of the home with several plastic bags of marijuana.
As he left his arraignment Monday morning, Braddock was tight lipped about the deadly shooting and the drug charges against him.
"I don't have anything to talk about," he said.
Investigators say Officer Lang and another officer, William Vrooman, were serving a drug-related warrant at the home when Campbell opened fire.
"After forcing entry into the residence, officers encounter one suspect in the hall that fled to a rear bedroom," Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong explained. "While officers were attempting to apprehend that suspect, a second suspect emerged from another bedroom firing multiple shots at officers. He then retreated to that room and began firing more shots at officers. He refused commands to cease fire and officers returned fire striking the suspect in the abdomen."
Officer Lang died as a result of her injuries.
Officer Vrooman was treated for a gunshot wound to his leg and was released from the hospital the same day.
Braddock is charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to manufacture, deliver, and sell.
He posted a $40,000 bond.
Braddock is scheduled to be back in court January 3.
