(WMC-TV) – Three brothers chased down a robbery suspect and finally captured one of the suspects but not before bullets flew through one apartment.
"My kids woke me up. They thought it was a firecracker. It was like Momma a firecracker just came through the window," stated neighbor Tamarra Gray.
But it wasn't a fire cracker, it was a bullet which tore a hole in the window and a curtain.
A bullet ended up going right through the wall in the living room of the apartment where six children were playing.
Police say it all started just after noon Tuesday Jervonte Bell, who looks more like the victim than the suspect.
According to investigators Bell and another man both wearing masks held a gun to the head of Derrick Williams, who lives in the apartment with his two brothers. Police say they took money out of Williams pocket and tried to take off in a 1996 gold Cadillac parked nearby.
"You take something from a person, they're going to come back and get you," said neighbor Terry Stevens.
That's exactly what police say the victim and his brothers did, blocking the suspects with their car despite the fact that the suspects were shooting at them in a parking lot.
The victims jumped out and caught up with suspect Bell, and a struggle ensued before the brothers could detain him.
"We work hard for ourself. So you don't want anybody to take your possessions. So you fight back for what's yours," stated Cindy Bailey, who works near the area.
Jervonte Bell is charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.
Our crews tried to talk with the victims. When contacted, they said they did not want to talk about it.
