(WMC-TV) - A 'Secret Santa' saved Christmas for more than two dozen families in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
An anonymous businessman showed up at Fred's Super Dollar and paid off all the outstanding layaways.
Quiet was his name, but his generosity is being heard loud and clear.
"I was going to lose my Christmas if it hasn't been for the secret Santa Claus," said Judy Barham.
Judy Barham is one of 30 customers to receive a special gift at the Dyersburg store this Christmas.
"It was just a blessing," said Barham.
The plant where Barham worked had closed.
"Then I went to work at a motel and they slowed down and laid us off," she explained.
As a result, Barham put her grandbabies' gifts on layaway.
"I've always done for my grand kids. I can't stop. They're my world," she said.
But Christmas was closing in and the money still was not coming in.
"I thought I was going to lose everything I had gotten my grand kids," said Barham as she wiped away tears.
Then, she got a call from Fred's Super Dollar.
"She said, 'You can come and get your Christmas because Secret Santa paid it out for you,'" said Barham.
Other customers who heard about the gesture say it gives them hope that Santa does not always come down a chimney.
"That's truly awesome," said Mitchell Clark.
"We still know people love and care for each other," agreed Lisa Hill.
Barham has these words for the man who gave her the early Christmas gift.
"Whoever it was, please, tell them thank you, God bless you and Merry Christmas."
The store manager says this is the second year the same anonymous businessman has made a donation.
