(WMC-TV) – A Memphis family is sure to have a Merry Christmas after their wishes granted by a local rap artist.
About one week ago, Yakesia Ruffin went to her neighborhood Christian center looking for a way to put gifts under her Christmas tree.
Her prayers were answered on Christmas Eve.
Ruffin is a single mother, who is doing her best to juggle her retail job while raising three kids. Sending her daughter to the University of Memphis this year forced her into making a decision.
"This Christmas, I had to choose between paying bills and the kids' gifts, of course," she said.
That is when Ruffin caught wind of a K97 FM radio contest featuring Memphis rapper Yo Gotti.
Through the contest, Yo Gotti fulfilled the Christmas lists of five lucky winners.
Ruffin's wish list consisted of food and clothing for her children.
"If you look in my refrigerator, there's nothing in there, and it's Christmas Eve," said Ruffin.
But the musician went above and beyond to make sure her family got what they needed – and more.
"Just trying to help the community and bring good things to the community in these crippling times and why not help out families in need," said Yo Gotti. "I just come and try to do my part, putting something under the tree, you know and help somebody, so let that come across as a blessing, for me and them."
"It put a smile on my kids' face and just to see that when they were expecting nothing," said Ruffin.
It was a humbling experience that left Ruffin full of emotions.
"Just thankful. Just happy that someone listened to my story," she said.
