Only On 5: New features of Pyramid's Bass Pro Shops revealed

Only On 5 : New Features Of Pyramid's Bass Pro Store

MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) – By this time next year, Bass Pro Shops will inhabit Memphis' Pyramid Arena, the former "Tomb of Doom."

We've learned about some new features never revealed…until now, Only on 5.

How about an after-hours bowling alley? That's just one of the new features you'll find under the Pyramid's hood when Bass Pro's doors open in the new year.

Senior Pyramid Arena architect Alan Barner says the Bass Pro redevelopment is right on schedule.

"They plan to open before Christmas next year," he said. "There's going to be something inside for everybody to enjoy."

The new feature we're learning about is Uncle Buck's Fish Bowl and Bowling Alley.

"10 bowling lanes.  It's going to have an after-hours entrance for that.  The store closes at 10, the bowling alley may stay open until midnight," Barner said.

And instead of a four-story hotel, they're planning to build a ring of 70 hotel rooms around the top level of the Pyramid.

Bass Pro describes the hotel rooms as cabins.

"You'll have your own private balcony with wooden and metal handrails and you'll have a cabin in the woods-type feel," said Barner.

Plans to build an elevator to the top of the arena are currently on hold.

"I don't really want to speak about the elevator because it's up in the air," Barner said.

But Barner did reveal more specific details about the suspended zip-line attraction for the adventurous.

"Two zip line towers where you'll start at the hotel level and zip down to an intermediate landing over the alligator swamp and the Crappie pond and then zip down to ground level," he said.

Bass Pro will start construction next month. You'll also notice highway and road upgrades currently underway to ease traffic around the area.
