Police cruiser stolen and set on fire

(WMC-TV) – We have new details about a bizarre turn of events this morning that led to an officer being injured, and a police cruiser being stolen.

Memphis police say around 3:30 a.m., police responded to a call in the 1900 block of Hubert. Officers say they then noticed a vehicle that matched a stolen Yukon reported earlier in the night.

Officers found two men taking the wheels off the SUV. One was arrested.

The second man fought off three officers while being arrested. He was able to break loose and jump into their police cruiser.

One officer suffered a head wound. However, he is expected to be okay.

As officers were looking for the missing squad car, they got a tip that it was on fire on Montgomery in Memphis.

They followed the tip and found the car had been driven into a guard rail and set on fire.

The investigation is ongoing.
