Warrant issued for man who allegedly stole police cruiser and shotgun

(WMC-TV) – Memphis police are looking for the man who stole a police cruiser and took a shotgun from the car before setting it on fire.

Police issued an arrest warrant for 31-year-old Issac Hayes Porterfield Thursday morning.  He is wanted for theft of property, vandalism, and assault charges.

Police say Porterfield and his 15-year-old son were being questioned about a carjacking just moments before the cruiser was stolen Wednesday morning.

The car was later found on fire blocks away at Montgomery and Snowden.

Memphis Police Association President Mike Williams says this latest incident is indicative of recent criminal behavior.

"We've been making remarks over the last year about how the tides are turning and a lot of the criminal element is starting to confront police officers," Williams said. "It's getting very dangerous out there...not just for the citizens, but for police as well."

Take a close look at the photo of Porterfield. He is from Memphis and described as 6'3" and 220 pounds.  Investigators say he could still be armed with the stolen gun.
