(WMC-TV) A happy ending for a dog featured on Action News Five's "12 strays of Christmas" program with the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County who is famous for her former life on Beale Street.

Inside Lady's new home, she is already nestled in a chair she's claimed as her own is Lady.

A 4-year-old shepherd mix that wandered the Beale Street Entertainment District for years.

"I saw her on the news and the first time that I saw her I just fell in love with her," said Lady's new owner Wanda Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald and her brother Larry Burke adopted Lady after she was featured on Action News Five's "12 Strays of Christmas" program.

"She's got little sad eyes and she needed a good home where someone will love her and take care of her," said Fitzgerald

The Humane Society's Katie Pemberton said Lady waited six months for a new family after she was rescued from a downtown church where she was guarding a litter of puppies.

"Our rescue team went over there and crawled through the walls literally to get her and her puppies out safe," said Pemberton.

Lady has met thousands of tourists so she's not shy.

"I imagine she's met some quite interesting people," said Pemberton.

And now she has two other dogs to pal around with.

Life's a lot easier for Lady now...and she seems to feel right at home in her new home.

Lady had at least four litters of puppies before the Humane Society took her in.
