2 fires investigated within blocks of each other

(WMC-TV) – For the second time in 48 hours, Memphis firefighters fought two house fires within blocks of each other.

One fire was at Latham Street and Gaston Avenue. The home suffered damage to the porch, windows, and several other places.

The other fire was just two blocks away at McLemore Avenue and 4th Street.

Both houses were vacant, and both fires started just before 1 a.m.

A third fire broke out around 7 a.m. at a building near Union Avenue and Cleveland Street. Investigators believe they know who caused the third fire and they arrested a homeless man in connection with the case.

A firefighter on the scene told Action News 5 they fought several fires at abandoned homes along McLemore just the night before.
