One killed, four injured in I-40 crash

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) – One person was killed and four others were injured in a car accident on I-40 Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, 21-year-old Denetrice Horton of Millington was driving eastbound on I-40 when she veered off the road and went down a steep embankment causing her car to roll several times.

All five people inside the car were ejected. Horton was killed.

Investigators do believe speed was a factor in the crash and while they are not sure whether anyone was wearing a seatbelt, they do believe if they had been, it could have made a difference.

Kristyn Bennett, 22, Pechone Jennings, 22, Antoine Quin, 20, and Korry Harris, 20, all of Memphis, were injured in the crash.

Two of the injured passengers were taken by helicopter to The MED. The other two were taken to the Haywood Park emergency room by ambulance.
