Two gaming locations battle for your money

(WMC-TV) - A war is raging between two Mid-South towns. What are they fighting over? Your money.

Southland Park Gaming and Racing in West Memphis, Arkansas and the casinos near Tunica, Mississippi are competing to bring customers in any way they can.

New commercials have some people wondering if the turf battle is going too far.

Southland Park just kicked off a new ad campaign called "Don't Risk the Road Trip". They are talking about the 40 mile drive from Memphis to Tunica.

"I understand there may be some people that don't really like it down there, but it's part of business," said Troy Keeping, Southland Park Gaming and Racing.

Southland Park GM Troy Keeping says the back and fourth ad campaign has been going on for years in a fight for Memphis customers.

Tunica Convention and Visitors Bureau CEO Webster Franklin recalls the last billboards.

"We put up nine casinos and so many slot machines and no dogs allowed. We did that and they did billboards that driving to Tunica is fuelish [sic]", said Franklin. "I think there are many people that think it's gone too far and it's a little outlandish but that's for them to decide."

Franklin understands the commercials are part of business and will let customers choose for themselves. He says there are no plans for any rebuttal commercials against Southland Park Gaming and Racing, where Keeping insists it is all in good fun.

The folks at Southland Park say there will likely be a few more commercials in before their ad campaign is over.
