Fayette County officials expect worsening road conditions

(WMC-TV) - Ice continues to build up on trees and power lines in Fayette County.

Traffic appears to be moving fairly well in the region, but a few crashes have been reported as bridges begin to accumulate ice.

Captain Erik Cook with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department expects things to get much worse as the falling rain turns to ice on the roads. Fayette County residents are expecting the worst.

"As long as you take your time, like when I came out 385, I just kept doing 55, kept slow, and when you get to the overpasses and bridges, just take your foot off the accelerator pad and let it go," said Daryl Champion, who works and commutes in Fayette County.

TDOT crews have already been out today with their grater trucks looking for icy patches on the roads, but drivers are still urged to use caution while driving and slow down.
