SUV loses control, rolls on I-40 ice

(WMC-TV) - A woman is recovering after a terrifying crash on Interstate 40 Wednesday morning.

The driver of an SUV hit an icy patch and lost control. She crashed into the guardrail causing her vehicle to roll.

Those who have seen the video may be shocked to find out that the driver went to work shortly after the crash.

Crystal Hill said she escaped the wreck without a bruise or even a scratch. She has already seen the video.

"It's just a real blessing to... to be okay," she said. "I'm kinda surprised after seeing the video, especially like that, that you know people get into accidents that are way less severe and are killed."

Hill said the roads seemed mostly clear Wednesday morning, but she hit a patch of ice and lost control. She was not alone.

Action News 5 happened to be recording the TDOT camera that captured the crash because of another accident at that location just moments before. A silver SUV hit the same ice patch and flipped over the guardrail.

"I guess I wasn't expecting it because a lot of the other roads are clear," said Tasheneka Prince, who also crashed in the same spot.

Hill hopes others learn from this story.

"It's just kind of a wake up call," she said.

During the inclement weather policy, Memphis police officers worked 234 crashes. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said their dispatchers took 99 crash calls.
