MY TURN: Dr. Cash legacy

(WMC-TV) - He rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, but I don't recall hearing even the critics of Dr. Kriner Cash question his motivations.

He came to Memphis City Schools declaring himself to be a reform superintendent and as he leaves, he will have the satisfaction of having accomplished some of level of reform.

Dr. Cash was controversial. For many of us, he didn't win on style points. His legacy here will be better understood over time, especially if some of his reform measures produce continuing results.

Dr. Cash deserves credit for his role in attracting the $90 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He also should receive our thanks for his willingness to step aside from the superintendent role gracefully at this time as the school merger will go more smoothly with one leader in charge.

At the end of the day, perhaps Dr. Cash will say that he learned some things from his stay here in Memphis, and there are many people here who believe we learned some things from Dr. Kriner Cash.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email or call 800-465-1210.
