World Series of Poker tour hits Tunica

(WMC-TV) - The World Series of Poker tour is coming to the Mid-South.

The high stakes tour stopped in Tunica Thursday and people are lining up for their chance to win big.

Hundreds of players are battling it out at Harrah's Tunica for a chance at thousands of dollars, some traveled from as far as Canada.

Money is up for grabs at Harrah's Tunica, you just have to have the winning hand to get the cash.

Haris Galatsidas is  from Canada.

He's ready to hit the table after staring at the road for more than 20 hours.

He'll join hundreds of others on his second stop in Tunica.

"It's like a little fraternity sometimes, you get to hang out with them and have some fun as well," said Galatsidas.

Karen Carli and her husband come every chance they get.

He's a frequent winner on the circuit, but even she can feel the ups and downs.

"It's very exciting when you get close to the money, and you could win a big pot," said Carli.

With a prize pool in six figures, players said they're in this for the long haul — even if it is a lot of poker and no sleep.

"If you make day two, you're going to be playing until two, three in the morning. By the time you unwind you get back to the room and you have to get up at it again in the morning," said Galatsidas.

The event are expected to last through the beginning of February.
