Woman rescued after car stuck in high water

(WMC-TV) - In the middle of some of the storm's most intense moments, Monica Buenaventura was driving home from work.

And like many other drivers her car came to an abrupt halt when she tried to drive across the flooding at Winchester and Getwell.

"The next thing I know its just straight into the water," said Buenaventura.

Buenaventura said she tried to put her BMW in reverse twice, but couldn't move it.

Seconds later her car started filling up with water.

"I called my brother and dad, freaking out, called my boyfriend freaking out, and I look over and my passenger side was filling up," she said.

Buenaventura said what's worse was an 18-wheeler was coming straight for her, and she had to swerve at the last minute.

She said it was an experience she will never forget.

"I seems really happy now, but moments ago when I was in my car I figured I was going to submerge, and was about to die," said Buenaventura.

Fortunately for Buenaventura, the 18-wheeler ended up getting stuck in the muddy median.

After that she jumped out of her car, and ran through water up to her thighs.

As for her BMW, it had to be towed.

Buenaventura said the good news is she's hopeful her car can be repaired quickly.

"It's about to get on a tow truck right now... this is a good excuse to miss work and a great story five years from now, but not

tonight. Just really thankful that I was able to get out," she said.
