Another Memphis police officer arrested for domestic assault

MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) – Another Memphis cop poses for a mug shot, this time domestic assault is the alleged crime.

It seems Police Director Toney Armstrong is constantly responding to officer arrests, and this is not the first one involving domestic violence.

Police say 53-year-old officer Lee Potts was off duty at the time of his arrest Wednesday.

The alleged incident took place late last week. It involves a 37-year-old woman who claimed Potts struck her in the face at a home in southeast Shelby County.

You may recall, well over 20 Memphis Police officers were charged with crimes in 2012, a number of them the result of domestic situations which the director says cannot be taken lightly.

Armstrong wrote in a statement, "Our officers are provided annual training on how to cope with potential domestic related situations. It is disappointing to know that a moment of anger could potentially cause this officer his freedom or career."

Officer Lee Potts, who has been on the force since 1998, is currently relieved of duty and was still being held at last check without bond.
