Cordova High School locked down briefly

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - A Cordova school was locked down Tuesday over fears of a gun being on campus.

Two separate incidents brought Memphis police officers to the Cordova High School campus. The first happened just after 7:30 a.m.

Memphis police say a student was resisting arrest by MCS security. Six others were also issued juvenile summons.

Students said the incident was gang related.

Hours later, around 11:30 a.m., MCS officials received information from a student that a man was armed on school property.

A school officer chased away the suspect.

The school was placed on lockdown and officers caught up with the man on the 1800 block of Cordova Rose Cove. He was not armed.

Kylan Vinson, 19, was arrested and charged with evading arrest and criminal trespass.

The lockdown was lifted at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
