Cats rescued from burning business

(WMC-TV) - A massive fire sent smoke billowing out of a local business Wednesday morning.

The owner of S & S Custom Cabinets said he was in his office when the fire broke out.

"I was here doing e-mails and checking orders and, came in and just turned the lights on and everything was happening," said William Scudder.

Scudder says the fire raced through the building and firefighters had their hands full by the time the flames reached the roof.

"There was a collapse in the center of the structure. We pulled our men off of the interior of the structure and went defensive," said Lt. Wayne Cook, Memphis Fire Department.

The blaze burned intensely because of all the materials used to make cabinets were inside.

The owner says at the exact time the fire was its most intense, his cat, Boots, and three others became trapped in the burning building. He credits firefighters with getting the animals out safely.

Scudder says the firefighters saved the cats by passing them through a window one-by-one.

So far, there is still no word on what caused that fire.
