Suspect arrested in trash can murder

(WMC-TV) - An arrest has been made in the shooting death of a man found stuffed in a trash can in Tate County, Mississippi.

The murder suspect is Floyd Newsom, Junior. According to investigators, Newsom knew the victim, Patrick Jones, but details about the relationship are not yet being revealed because more arrests are possible.

"Whoever did this, if they out there they can turn themselves in," said Jones' mother in December.

She said she was not worried about investigators finding her son's killer.

Now, Tate County authorities believe they have their guy.

Floyd Newsom, Junior is behind bars without bond and is charged with murder.

"If I could say something to my baby, the main thing. I love him, I love my son," said Alberta Jones.

Jones' brother, Mike, said he found the body in a garbage can. An autopsy revealed he was likely shot and killed long before he was reported missing.

"They thought they was tearing us up but they pulled us closer together, because look, I'm on Jesus' side now, I'm not out there with no gun," said the victim's mother.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation continues to work this case with Tate County.
