MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - More than 3,000 cruise ship passengers aboard the Carnival Triumph, some of them kissing the ground when they made landfall Thursday night, are happy to be on dry land.

On Sunday, an engine fire on the ship crippled most of its services.

Memphis businessman Rich Keltner was aboard the Carnival Elation, which was also in the Gulf, when the crew made an announcement over the loud speaker.

"About 3 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. they came on and said we would be rendezvousing with the Triumph, told us about the situation," Keltner said.

As Keltner's ship approached the Carnival Triumph, he began to take pictures.

In one picture, the ship is leaning to one side because the stabilizers had gone out.

Keltner's ship pulled up to the Triumph around 3 p.m. Sunday, just hours after it lost power.

Crew members from his ship began unloading help for the stranded passengers.

"We took over hamburgers and salads, just warm food," he added.

Keltner says he was close enough to yell at the Triumph's passengers.

He remembers seeing their makeshift tents toward the back of the ship.

Despite misfortune for these passengers, Keltner says he's never had a problem with Carnival.

He will continue to cruise the open waters.

"Good company. This was my eighth cruise, got my ninth booked. I'll probably go on another one in the fall on their new boat the Sunshine," Keltner continued.
