West Memphis -
(WMC-TV) - Some students from West Memphis High School feel a bit uneasy after a reported shooting happened at their school late Saturday night.
"I kind of feel more unsafe than I already did at this school," said senior Lindsey Woods while waiting for basketball practice to begin Sunday afternoon.
Less than 24 hours before Woods went to practice at West Memphis High School, reported gun shots were fired in the courtyard between the gym and the performing arts center.
"It makes me not want to be here. It makes me feel really weird and awkward that somebody got shot right here," said Woods.
A West Memphis-based non-profit called Life Enrichment and Development hosted a Black History Month celebration at West Memphis High School's Performance Arts Center.
The shooting happened as the crowd was leaving after the program.
Lerry Reese was at the high school for the event during the shooting. He said there was a fight involving four to five people, and that it was gang related. According to Reese, one person pulled out a pistol and shot a man in the leg.
Police aren't confirming whether anyone was injured.
"It's scary to have this happen at a high school event. It really worries me. I have a brother that attends school here. This shouldn't be happening at a high school. Especially for a Black History month event," said Reese.
Neighbors said after the shooting the school was a very active scene with patrol cars, an ambulance, and a fire truck.
The West Memphis Police department has not released information regarding this incident. LEAD and WMP have not returned any of Action News 5's calls.
