Public given sneak peek at Jerry Lee Lewis' new Beale Street club

(WMC-TV) - A honky tonk is coming to Beale Street in the name of Jerry Lee Lewis.

"The Killer" is opening a club May 1 in the place that used to house Pat O'Briens.

Jerry Lee Lewis' Cafe and Honky Tonk is going to have something for everyone, from live music, to dancing, to southern food.

Restaurant manager J.W. Whitten says the Mid-South is in for a treat.

"Something to bring Beale Street back to the glory says when it was all about entertainment, stars when people like B.B. King hung out on Beale Street," said Whitten.

The famous piano pounder's new club will highlight live music in the space at 310 Beale Street, with two and three-piece rock and roll bands.

"There's going to be memorabilia all in the place, music, films of him, videos doing shows, concerts," explained Whitten.

The cuisine will be food Jerry grew up eating: a mix of Louisiana and Mississippi southern dishes.

Patrons will also get to dine on a secret dessert recipe created by Jerry himself.

Whitten says visitors' eyes, ears, and taste buds will feast on everything rock and roll, honky tonk, and blues.

And you can expect Jerry Lee Lewis sightings.

"He'll be coming in from time to time," said Whitten. "He won't be bussing tables or waiting on people. He'll be making pop-up appearances and maybe perform for special little deals."

It is unclear if Jerry Lee Lewis will perform at the May 1 grand opening, but Whitten says he will perform at Memphis in May this year.
