Puppies paint for pop-up art show

(WMC-TV) - Puppies at the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County got creative Thursday morning, painting for their Paws for Art auction.

It may have looked like "puppy chaos" but to the trained eye, or the staff at the humane society, it was a group of artistic geniuses at work.

"We've got biodegradable paint, totally safe paint and we're putting it on their paws and allowing them to be creative. It's abstract art for sure, but, we think it's really neat," said Alexis Amorose, Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County.

So what are the pups creating?

"It's a one of a kind piece. You know who it's made by? An animal at the Humane Society that's waiting for it's forever home and it goes to benefit a good cause," explained Amorose.

The humane society has worked in Memphis since 1933, giving injured and abused dogs and cats a safe, loving place to recover and find forever homes. It is funded exclusively through private donations.

"We felt the perfect way to put a spotlight on who we care for here is to get the puppies and kittens and adult dogs involved in creating art for our Paws for Art event," said Amorose.

You can view the canine and feline art work as well as donated pieces from local human artists at the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County's "Paws for Art" pop-up shop at The Shops of Saddle Creek beginning March 1st through the 12th.

Many pieces are available for bidding via silent and online auction. Others will be held for a live auction on March 14.

Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased online or at the door. Tickets include beer, wine, and food from Ciao Bella.
