MEM passengers uncomfortable with knives on planes

(WMC-TV) - Passengers will now be able to bring small pocket style knives and sporting equipment, that were previously banned, onto planes.

It is a move some people at Memphis International Airport welcome, but some others just don't get it.

With young kids, Lisa Martin always has her hands full as she goes through airport security.

"They are so meticulous about taking your shoes off, and I know we had trouble last time with a child, we had trouble with breast milk getting past there," said Martin

Considering all the trouble she goes through, this mom would have never imagined knives would be allowed.

The new policy permits folding knives with blades that are 2.36 inches or less in length, and are less than 1/2-inch wide.

Also, you can now bring on board novelty-sized baseball bats less than 24 inches long, toy plastic bats, billiard cues, ski poles, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks and two golf clubs.

"I don't like it. It scares me," said Martin.

These new security measures will go into effect April 25. All of this an effort to move the United States closer to International safety standards.
