Market employee shot in parking lot

(WMC-TV) - An employee of the market on North Hollywood Street was shot several times in the leg and face Monday morning.

According to Memphis police, the shooting happened near the Hollywood Z Food Market.

The store owner says the victim is 52. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigators say the employee was in the parking lot, talking with two men, who ended up robbing and shooting him. Police say the suspects took off on foot, both wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts.

Store patrons are shocked by what happened.

"They're so nice. They're very respectful," Tracie Morton said about the staff at the market. "They'll help you out if you don't have it. I don't understand and why somebody would do that."

Surveillance footage of the crime is being reviewed by investigators.

The store owner told Action News 5's Nick Kenney that the victim is married with four small children. He is working to learn the business and planned to purchase the store soon.

"It's sad that this happened here," said Morton. "I hope they found out who did it, I really do."
