(WMC-TV) - A 17-year-old was killed and a 13-year-old was critically injured in a shooting Saturday in Raleigh.

Officers were called to the area of Bluff Wood Drive and Royal Ridge Drive around 11 p.m. where Unyime Williams, 17, was found dead in the street.

The 13-year-old is identified as Marnez. His friends say that he is a track star at Raleigh Egypt High School. He is currently recovering at LeBonheur Children's Hospital after neighbors say he was caught in the crossfire.

"Good kid, straight 'A' student, don't bother nobody, real quiet," said Shannon Hammock of Memphis.

Blood still marks the spot in front of Toby Tate's North Memphis home where the shooting took place.

"He was laying here and my neighbor was helping him and blood was coming out, so I told my wife to go get a towel so we could press on his chest," said Tate.

Tate has lived in the neighborhood for 19 years. He says gangs were not behind this double shooting. He does not like be awakened by gunfire and says it is lucky the bullets did not hit anyone else.

"Twelve to 15 shots, so anybody coulda got shot," said Tate.

Hammock says gunfire is pretty much the norm in the area.

"I ain't gonna say scary because I hear gunshots a lot, but when it's right out here, it touches base," said Hammock.
